The Mediterraneo decor was born in 2004 during Lightness of Steel, a design workshop curated for Alessi by Laura Polinoro (LPWK). Participants were asked to reinterpret steel in objects that did not communicate physical solidity, and to draw on imagery related to the biological, organic and natural world, which has always been a powerful evocative force when used in objects. Sheet metal fretwork emerged as an ideal way to infuse steel with lightness. Emma Silvestris responded to this challenge with a bold oxymoron, transferring to metal the delicateness of organic coral.
Mediterraneo
Emma Silvestris, jewellery designer by trade, celebrates the tree of waters with this fruit bowl, transferring into the cut metal the magical and symbolic aura which has always accompanied this precious organic material since the age of antiquity.
