The “826” basket belongs to a category of objects that have been present in the domestic household for centuries: the metal wire basket. It was the first object to result from the technological research into folded metal wire carried out by the Alessi Technical Office in the second half of the 1940s.

In the late 1940s, after the wartime hiatus, the design activities of the Alessi Technical Office resumed. The research in wire products led in 1948 to the production of the 826 round basket, followed in 1955 by the oval version and in 1966 by the square version. The simplicity of execution of these baskets is matched by a refined formal result. Their success is remarkable: they offer a more modern and dynamic alternative to the still popular silver baskets, suitable for both curated and informal tables, anticipating the contemporary taste for refined minimalism.
